The year has been quite eventful as lot of changes are taking place in the world of technology. In this article, we will be covering some of the major tech events along with the ongoing issue i.e, Net Neutrality.

Intel Compute Stick launched

It is a 10.3 cm long USB device that can transform a TV into a computer. The device packs a 1.33 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 32GB eMMC storage and a microSD slot for expandable storage. It also comes with wireless connectivity features like WiFi & Bluetooth and comes pre-loaded with Windows 8.1. You can purchase the device at Rs. 8,500 (approx.) from Flipkart.

WhatsApp comes to Desktop

WhatsApp launched its Instant Messenger for Google Chrome web browser. However, at the time of using the WhatsApp Messenger for Web browsers, the mobile phone must be connected to the Internet.



Facebook launches Internet.org in India

Facebook with RCom launched Internet.org in India. It aims to offer a few selected services (online) for Free.


Huawei forays into wearables with Huawei Watch

Huawei launches its first smartwatch, Huawei Watch for Android devices.

Samsung launches Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Both the handsets supports Wireless charging. S6 and S6 Edge sports a flat display and dual – curved display respectively. They were launched in India starting at Rs. 49,900. Later, they received steep price cuts following poor sales.


ASUS ZenFone 2WhatsApp launches its Voice Calling feature

Initially, this feature was available through invites only. To make a free voice call, both the caller and the receiver needs to use the latest version (2.11.5 or above).

Airtel rolls out Platinum 3G services

Airtel started offering Platinum 3G services to its customers. Platinum 3G services are being provided on 900MHz spectrum. Customers can experience 30% better Indoor coverage than traditional 3G network. Platinum 3G is claimed to be 34% faster and phone battery will last 17% longer than 3G on 2100MHz.

Net Neutrality Debate starts

With the launch of ‘Airtel Zero‘ plan, the Net Neutrality debated started in India. Flipkart Pulled out of the Airtel Zero partnership after social media backlash. These developments led the Indian Telecom Regulator TRAI to bring out a consultation paper with 20 questions spread across 118 pages.
