Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ with Bixby Virtual Assistant launched

Samsung launches Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at an event. The devices will be available starting on April 21, 2017, and will be offered in Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold colour variants.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will sport an iris scanner and a fingerprint sensor at the back. Both the handsets will come with Bixby Virtual Assistant and Samsung Dex, a feature that allows the user to use their smartphone like a computer by docking it to monitor, keyboard, and mouse with the help of Samsung Dex Dock. Both the devices support fast and wireless charging. The handsets come with ‘Infinity Displays’ and are dust and water resistant.

Both the handsets feature 12-megapixel ‘Dual Pixel’ rear camera with OIS and an 8MP front camera with autofocus technology. The handsets will run on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The company also claims that these are the first devices to be certified by the UHD Alliance as Mobile HDR Premium.

Both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will either be powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC (2.3GHz Quad + 1.7GHz Quad) or Exynos 8895 SoC (2.35GHz Quad + 1.9GHz Quad). The handsets include 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with an expandable memory slot of up to 256GB.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 will sport a 5.8inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display while the Galaxy S8+ sports a 6.2-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display. Both the devices include Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ packs a 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh battery respectively. Other features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, MST and GPS. It also includes an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor, magnetometer and proximity sensor.

The device also supports Samsung Pay. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ unlock the new Gear VR with Controller that can connect to the new Gear 360 to create 4K 360-degree videos and 15MP photos. The Samsung Connect feature simplifies smart device management allowing users to activate IoT-enabled devices through a quick three-step configuration process and manage all connected devices through one integrated app. The company didn’t disclose any pricing information.
