India’s leading telecom operator, Bharti Airel has finally launched its much awaited VoLTE (Voice over LTE) services in Mumbai. With this move, Bharti Airtel becomes the 2nd operator to launch VoLTE services. Reliance Jio was the first service provider to launch VoLTE services in India. The company has also announced the list of handsets that will be compatible with its 4G services on its website. The most interesting part that we have found is none of the devices from Lenovo or Motorola has been listed on the given webpage.
Airtel’s VoLTE services are available in Mumbai only and the subscribers need a compatible handset with a 4G SIM card. VoLTE services allows customers to experience HD quality crystal clear voice with faster call setup time. While using VoLTE services, users can continue to have un-interrupted high-speed 4G internet experience. Airtel VoLTE calls will be charged as per your existing voice plan / pack and would not consume any additional data
Once activated, Android users can see “HD/VoLTE” icon on the top bar of the screen, which indicates that their phone is ready for VoLTE calls. For iOS users there is no visual representation. To check the activation of VoLTE services on your phone, one can navigate –
For iOS: Settings -> Mobile Data -> Mobile Data Options -> Enable 4G -> Turn on Voice & Data
For Android: Settings -> Settings -> Mobile Network -> Turn on VoLTE call.
If you are using a dual SIM handset, you will have to ensure that the Airtel 4G SIM is inserted in the SIM slot with data capability and select the “4G/3G/2G (Auto)” as the preferred network mode.
