Airtel counters JioPhone by offering 4G Phone at ₹ 1,399

India’s leading telecom operator, Bharti Airtel has announced partnership with handset manufacturer Karbonn to offer the Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone at an effective price of ₹ 1,399 under ‘Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone’ (My First 4G Smartphone) initiative. Unlike the JioPhone – a 4G feature phone at ‘Effective Zero Cost’, this 4G smartphone is being offered at the price of a feature phone.

Offer Details

To avail this offer, a customer needs to buy the Karbonn A40 Indian handset for ₹ 2,899 and make 36 continuous monthly recharges of ₹ 169 to claim the ₹ 1,500 credit. The same will be deposited in the customer’s Airtel Payments’ Bank account and the customer doesn’t need to return the handset. The credit will be deposited in two installments, ₹ 500 after 18 months and the remaining ₹ 1,000 will be deposited at the end of 36 months.

The recharge benefit of ₹ 169 include unlimited (Local + STD) calls and 0.5GB Data per day for 28 days. The customer can also chose to recharge with a different denomination but, he/she needs to ensure recharges worth ₹ 3,000 is done within the first 18 months (to claim the first refund installment of ₹ 500) and another ₹ 3,000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund installment of ₹ 1000).

Karbonn A40 Indian Specifications


The Karbonn A40 Indian sports a 4inch screen and is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad core processor. The handset includes 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage with an expandable memory slot that supports microSD cards of upto 32GB. The handset runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Karbonn A40 Indian features a 2MP primary camera and 0.3MP front facing camera. The device packs a 1,400mAh battery. Other features include – dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, WiFi and GPS. The handset include a few pre-loaded Airtel apps and the user can also install applications like Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp from Google Play.
